At The Chapel

Name: At The Chapel
Location: Burton, UK
Design: Ahmed Sidki & Catherine Butler

A former 17th century congregation church found new life as a cafe, bakery, wine shop, and restaurant.  Keeping the original architectural details intact, the minimalist and warm interior showcases the goods and space perfectly.

Utilizing natural materials and a minimal color palate, the almost Scandinavian interior, allows multiple functions to flow together while maintaining a cohesive feel.

I love that the architectural details of this stunning building are offset and balanced perfectly by the minimalist and warm interior.

Southeast Wine Collective

Location: Portland, OR

Southeast Wine Collective has created an urban tasting room, bringing together four local wineries.
The space is a blend of urban warehouse and warm tasting room and use the wine as both displays and focal points.

The main tasting bar uses wine barrels as shelving and texture. Wine stored bottom out creates a great visual flanking each side.

The space also created multiple seating types including banquette, bar, and community table seating. All of these allow the tasting room to offer multiple experiences and host different events.

Terroni

Name: Terroni
Location: Toronto & LA

Terroni does a great job carry a style and vision throughout multiple locations. With two locations in Toronto and one in LA, they let their defining element; the wine, shine through.

The use of mixed materials adds a funky, unstuffy vibe to the space which is refreshing knowing their focus on wine.

The built-in shelving behind the bars at each location are simple enough to showcase the vast collection but also play to the original details of the space.

LA:

I love that the LA location took a traditional library setup and flipped it on its head by infusing an urban aesthetic paired with the modern and simple shelving.

 Toronto:

Each locations interior perfectly compliments it's structure while also providing a good dash of contrast. The intricate tray ceiling is juxtaposed by the modern light, urban art, and clean wooden booths.

Divino Wine Bar

Name: Davino Wine Bar
Location: Budapest
Design: Suto Interior Architects

Davino Wine Bar created a modern and warm spot perfect for displaying wine and serving customers. Utilizing a neutral color palate and limiting the materials used helped keep them on budget and focused in the design.

Utilizing strong geometric shapes and the light pine creates a great backdrop for the restaurants wine display while also providing a feature wall and focal point.

Concrete counters and diamond plating for floors helped establish the dark grey, black, and silver used to balance out the large quantity of pine.

I enjoy that all components follow through with the simple yet strong geometric aesthetic. Having the lights mirror the shape of the bar and wine display tie the space together and give it a harmonious feel.

Barcelona Atlanta

Name: Barcelona Wine Bar & Restaurant
Location: Atlanta, GA
Designer: Square Feet Studio

Barcelona, located in Atlanta is easily one of my favorite  examples of modern and rustic mixed. With floor to ceiling wood-clad walls, graphic artwork, industrial fixtures and metal details, you simply cannot go wrong. Sticking to a minimal color palate of browns, blacks and whites allows for the space to feel harmonious and allows the materials to shine. I can't wait to make a stop in the next time i'm in Atlanta.

Brooklyn Winery

Name: Brooklyn Winery
Location: Brooklyn
Designer: WRK Design

I need to acknowledge how excited I am that Brooklyn now has a winery. The space is a perfect mix of reclaimed, worn, warm, and inviting. The wood wainscoting, painted brick and industrial pendants add a rich warmth to the space and the use of long, community style tables follows through with the social and community feel of the space. I love the verticality created with the reclaimed, stacked wood wall and long tables. I also adore the large, re-purposed outdoor space, perfect for a warm summer night. All materials used in the space were completely reclaimed and repurposed. It is always great to see designers get creative with materials and the polished, finish space of Brooklyn Winery speaks to the successful use of those creative endeavors .

RN74

Name: RN74
Location: San Francisco, CA
Designer: AvroKO

Named after the Route National 74, which runs through the 'Burgundy wine region of France' this San Francisco restaurant (opened in 2009) was styled after a french train station. The most direct nod to this is the vintage arrival/departure board, which features the nightly wine selection and prices.
Having watched this space get built from the ground up, I appreciate the design knowing its location and proximity to the new (& former) Transbay Terminal. The urban simplicity and almost rustic elegance of the space allows the guest to experience a wonderful meal in an environment that truly represents the diversity of the Burgundy area.

Scala Vinoteca

Name: Scala Vinoteca
Location: Athens, Greece
Designer:Andreas Kurkulas & Maria Kokkinou

We love this space because of its minimalist, modern vibe and strong character. A nod to the vineyard and wine-making process is apparent through the tractor seat bar stools, use of metal throughout the space and the amount of natural wood. It feels like a space you could easily spend hours with friends at.
