We love a good brewery and Garage Project, located in New Zealand, has recently grabbed our attention for its bold use of color, urban exterior, and simple tasting bar.

Using a limited material palate, polished subway tiles contrast the warm wood bar and allow the beer on tap to shine.

With industrial and midcentury nods, the overall space compliments the polish and industrial nature of the brewing equipment adjacent.

Barchetta

One of the newest openings in NYC is Barchetta, an intimate italian seafood spot. Vintage and nautical touches fill the main dining space and mezzanine exuding a casual warmth throughout the space.

Danish chairs and custom tables made from found ceiling trusses live alongside abstract impressionist art and vintage light fixtures. The overall space is intimate and casual while maintaining a level of refinement through a natural color scheme and abundance of texture.

Messhall

Name: Mess Hall

Location: Los Angeles, CA

With a mix of mid century modern and rustic, Messhall creates a space that fits well within it's historic dome roofed structure.

Industrial stools, wood clad walls, and a color palate reminiscent of days at camp all come together to form a space much more pulled together than I remember my camp mess hall being!

I love that they used a common, everyday object- the divided dining tray, and created a a great visual that ties into the concept.

Kiosk

Kiosk was created based on the idea that everyone has a favorite little diner. One that is small and comfortable and makes you want to return time after time.

With touches of mid century modern, Kiosk puts a fresh spin on the classic concept.

The use of butcher block and blond wood helps balance the small space While the globe pendants and curved lines evoke the classic mid century modern appeal.

The Sound Table

Name: The Sound Table
Location: Atlanta, GA

The Sound Table merges music, food, and cocktails into a modern package filled with local artists.

Using locally sourced Ambrosia Maple along with reclaimed timbers and locally crafted lighting, the space feels local, modern and clean.

The slat benches located throughout the space contact the exposed brick walls and add a touch of scandinavian simplicity and lightness.

Local Favorite; Ada Street

Name: Ada Street
Location: Chicago, IL

Tucked away in an industrial part of Chicago, Ada street restaurant is a welcome contrast to the gritty urban exterior. You enter through the dimly lit lounge and are guided down a long hall lined with vintage lockers storing the restaurants wine selection. At the end of the hall is additional vintage storage, but this time for their extensive record collection. The dining space opens up from here allowing you to pass by the open kitchen and head chef Zoe at the helm.

A look at the intimate space;

A wide range of design aesthetics were used but all were kept minimal and comfortable. A banquet wrapped in army blankets flanks the wall with two-top spots in the center. The opposite wall is dominated by their large glass-backed, and well stocked bar.

Past the dining room is Ada's great outdoor back patio complete with artificial grass, picnic tables and checkered table clothes. While we were visiting, Ada was featuring a menu focused around the grill and luckily we got to experience some wonderful dishes cooked right outside our table.

A look at what we ate;

Stuffed zucchini blossom with heirloom tomatoes, foie gras with bing cherries & toasted ciabatta, grilled market flatbread with zucchini, scallop with corn puree and crispy potato, and we ended the night with brioche donuts with port wine caramel.

I would go back for the scallop, flatbread and donuts. The zucchini blossom is always a win but I only wish they could have given two. The foie gras, was good, but served cold which threw me off a bit.
